In Mal du Siècle – Triptyque I, the human figure stands in a closed, almost constrained posture, with downcast eyes and arms held behind the back. The body, treated in a more organic and sculpted manner, asserts a palpable presence, in tension with the surrounding space.
The environment, constructed from simple geometric patterns and contrasting colors, evokes a closed, standardized space where reference points seem both clear and unstable. The… verticality of the wall and the frontality of the composition reinforce a feeling of silent confinement.
In this confrontation, the body does not dissolve into space: it resists, asserts itself despite the constraint. The work thus conveys a form of inner withdrawal, where melancholy and tension manifest themselves in the relationship between the living being and an environment too rigid to fully accommodate it.
