About this artwork
In Mal du Siècle – Diptyque I, two human figures coexist in a closed geometric space, without any real interaction. Their postures — one bent, almost collapsed, the other crouching in an attitude of withdrawal — convey a state of fatigue or inner tension.
The treatment of the body, organic and sculpted, reinforces the presence of life in the face of a constructed, rigid, and silent environment. The space, structured by simple planes and an ambiguous… perspective, maintains a feeling of constraint, accentuated by the presence of an isolated volume on the ground, whose function remains uncertain.
Despite their proximity, the figures seem trapped in distinct states, unable to fully unite. The body persists, but in a state of exhaustion, revealing a contemporary unease where human presence resists without managing to break free from the space that contains it.
