About this artwork
And so, I offer to you my very latest painting, Three English Robins. To me, art is about communication and connection and my highest goal when I am painting is to create a connection with you, the viewer.
Birds on old books, there is a story here for each of you about your own relationship to the painting. What do you feel about English robins- the colors, the cute forms, what they might be saying to each other? For me, it is great fun to scavenge… consignment shops for old books which are often falling apart. They have so much character, as well as their own stories.
Regarding my technique, I stack books at different angles until I find the structure i want. In this case, I painted the background dark green as a solid dramatic surface and then started loosely painting the books. I find bird images and select the birds that allow movement and colors to enhance the composition. I finish the painting by adding details. and tweaking. This painting took about a month to complete.
« I now see my career as a series of new expansions followed by the refinement of long periods of physical application. »
Elizabeth Rickert is an award-winning artist based in the United States whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally. In her artistic process, Rickert employs varying techniques with oils on canvas. She started as a sculptor, and so, approaches nature with a sculptor's eye- seeing the way shapes and forms and light and darkness interact. She has been fortunate to find museums, galleries, artist residencies, and corporate and private collectors around the world.
