About this artwork
One of the things I love most about my paintings is how they continue to change with the light. Through layers of colour, genuine metal leaf and metallic pigments, each work reveals different expressions depending on the time of day, the direction of the light and the angle from which it is viewed.
Some colours quietly emerge while others seem to disappear, creating a constantly changing experience. Even the finest photography cannot fully capture… these subtle transformations.
I love the idea that a painting never looks quite the same twice, and that there is always something new to discover when experiencing it in person.

« I never know where a painting will take me. That is the beauty of it — discovering something I could never have imagined. I never know where a painting will take me. That is the beauty of it — discovering something I could never have imagined. I paint freely, guided by intuition rather than intention. What others see, feel or discover in my work is entirely up to them, with complete freedom to interpret it in their own way. »
Emi is a Japanese contemporary abstract artist based in Sydney, Australia. With a background in fashion design in New York and Tokyo, her creative journey brings together Japanese aesthetics and an international perspective.
Exhibited internationally, including Paris, Tokyo and Sydney, her work combines traditional Japanese pigments, genuine gold and silver leaf with contemporary techniques developed through years of exploration.
Deeply influenced by classical music and her passion for ballet, Emi paints intuitively, allowing sound, movement and unexpected discoveries to guide her work.
Each painting is built through a unique, unrepeatable process, creating layers of colour and texture that reveal new expressions as the light changes.
