In the background of my sculpture stands a shipping container — a symbol of globalization and consumerism. Today the world grows more alike: everything can be packed, moved, and replaced. Yet with this sameness we lose deeper values — trust, closeness, and the memory of where we come from.
In Kyrgyz culture, consumerism has never been a virtue. What matters is the inner life: opening your yurt to a guest, sharing food, riding horses, or playing… national games that need almost nothing but joy. Nowruz is a spring celebration of renewal, when families and neighbours gather not for what they own, but for what they can share.
This sculpture is a reminder that, unlike the faceless global world, traditions, hospitality, and trust make us truly rich. Every nation must honour its diversity and protect the values that cannot be packed into a box. Perhaps this is the task of art today: to wake us up, to remind us who we are, and to turn our gaze from the physical to the spiritual.
« I am an artist who believes in nature and its power. I can hear nature's voice. »
Emil Kasymov is an artist based in Kyrgyzstan whose paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions nationally, as well as in China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Denmark. He believes that art cannot exist without meaning and that each composition is imbued with an aura that one feels instead of sees. Often creating a painting, Kasymov will sometimes spend up to three days in nature to fully "hear and feel" before beginning a piece.
