Eric Rugers (Melbourne, 1970) is een hybride abstract kunstenaar die werkt op het snijvlak van schilderkunst en fotografie. Zijn beelden ontstaan uit geschilderde oppervlakken en bewegen zich tussen kleur, licht en vorm.
Na meer dan dertig jaar in illustratie en design richt Rugers zich volledig op zijn autonome praktijk. In 2024 en 2025 werd zijn werk opgenomen in de collectie van het MA-g Museum. Curator Andréa Da Palma (Galerie Perrotin) prees zijn „opvallende beheersing van verzadiging en lichtgevende toonverschuivingen”.
Werkend binnen het Perceptualisme creëert hij beelden die zich onttrekken aan een eenduidige interpretatie. Ze vragen om aandacht, vertraging en een open blik.
Geïnspireerd door J.M.W. Turner, Peter Doig en Gerhard Richter, evenals door de Japanse esthetiek van yūgen en ma, maakt hij werk dat zich langzaam ontvouwt en bij iedere ontmoeting iets anders laat zien.
