About this artwork
The artist has used layers of cotton calico, together with acrylic paint, gels and polymers to create this work on a stretched box canvas. The resultant painting employs these areas to accentuate the interplay of bold colour, texture and surface quality in a striking and original composition.
'' The inspiration for this piece came from listening to Motown; reminding me of my youth; coming from a post industrial northern industrial town,looking for… new opportunities. Art came to the rescue. Working in the instinctive way I often work, I never know what to expect. Paintings evolve and sooner or later, have a way of communicating their own unique identity and message.
