About this artwork
Tribu is a work built around the power of the gaze and the search for identity. The face, close and frontal, occupies almost the entire space and establishes a direct dialogue with the viewer. It is not simply a portrait: it is a presence.
The intensity of the eyes contrasts with the serenity of the expression. The lines that traverse the face, the deep reds, blacks, greens, and earth tones, as well as the circular shapes placed to the side, evoke… signs, connections, and elements of belonging. They are like traces that refer back to memory, origins, and what links each individual to their own tribe.
The combined use of acrylic and oil on canvas allows for alternating areas of quick and expressive gesture with others that are deeper and more nuanced.
Asun Glez, with the collaboration of Franck Sastre, thus offers a contemporary figure that seems to question us about our origins.
