About this artwork
In Bioluminescent Rift, I explore the idea of hidden energy emerging from beneath fractured surfaces. While creating this piece, I was drawn to the way deep ocean trenches and geological rifts conceal entire ecosystems that glow quietly in the dark. I imagined a luminous seam running through an unseen landscape, where pressure, movement, and time have split the surface open to reveal something unexpectedly alive beneath it.
The flowing layers of… colour mirror tectonic movement and shifting currents, while the glowing pigments suggest the mysterious light produced by bioluminescent organisms deep in the ocean. For me, the work sits at the intersection of geology and biology — where rupture becomes illumination and what was once hidden begins to glow.
This painting is part of my ongoing exploration of luminous fractures and layered natural systems.
