About this artwork
Outgrowth is part of the Charred Silence series — a body of work created with stone coal, ash, and visualized data. This piece is a meditation on bodies marked by trauma, survival, and transformation.
The work is dedicated to women living with breast cancer. Using coal — the residue of fire — the painting charts the statistics of disease, not in cold abstraction, but in raw, tactile material. Medical data becomes texture, pigment becomes memory,… and the surface becomes a living record of resilience.
The word “outgrowth” refers both to a physical form and a metaphor for life persisting in distortion. In this context, the canvas protrudes, cracks, and resists flatness — just like bodies do under pressure.
Coal is witness. Texture is testimony. Silence is charged.
Kazakhstan-born Gala Kolomenskaya expresses her artistic prowess sublimely through oil and palette knife techniques. Her work dances with innovative modern painting trends, brilliantly detailed and populated by her stunning color combinations and thoughtful, textured strokes. A profound and ecstatic exploration of life’s bright and shadowy corners, Kolomenskaya's paintings are an invitation to experience volatile emotions and breathe in life's vivid beauty.
