“Invocation” explores a moment suspended between physical sensation and inward contemplation. With closed eyes, an elevated chin and hands drawn toward the chest, the figure appears caught in an intimate state of surrender. Rendered in charcoal, graphite and white charcoal on grey paper, the drawing uses restrained contrasts of light and shadow to emphasise the delicacy of the face, neck, hands and shoulders. The work reflects an interest in the… human body as both anatomical structure and emotional language, leaving the gesture open to interpretations of sensuality, vulnerability, meditation and release.
Gerardo Monroy is a Mexican figurative painter working primarily in oil and charcoal, with a solid background in classical fine arts training and extensive independent study. He masterfully employs techniques rooted in Old Master traditions—layered oil painting, dramatic chiaroscuro, and meticulous anatomical observation—while infusing his work with a contemporary sensibility. His paintings evoke deep emotional resonance, conveying vulnerability, strength, and introspection that invite intimate reflection and universal connection.
