About this artwork
Ominous is a brooding oil painting that explores emotional tension and the quiet weight of anticipation. Through layered brushwork and restrained tonal shifts, the piece evokes a sense of looming presence — a visual unease that feels both intimate and expansive.
A hidden narrative unfolds in the background: a distant harbor with faint silhouettes of sailboats, barely visible through the atmospheric haze. This subtle detail adds mystery and depth,… suggesting stories untold and destinations unreachable. It’s a quiet nod to isolation, movement, and the unknown.
Texture plays a commanding role, guiding the viewer’s eye across the canvas. The palette reinforces the mood — shadowed, stormy, and contemplative.
Collectors will be drawn to the painting’s layered symbolism and emotional resonance. Ominous is ideal for those seeking a statement piece that balances visual tension with poetic subtlety — a work that lingers long after the first glance.

Gery Kempczynski is a Chicago-based contemporary artist known for atmospheric abstract landscapes and expressive abstract works. His textured oil and acrylic paintings explore the emotional terrain between stillness and movement, blending minimalist restraint with layered depth. Through impasto knife work and gestural brush techniques, he builds surfaces that capture subtle shifts in light, color, and motion.
In his short time on Singulart, Gery has already placed four works with collectors — including the recent sale of Desert Sunrise to a private collector in Yvelines, France. Whether landscape-inspired or fully abstract, his paintings resonate with those seeking art that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression.
