About this artwork
I painted Summer Breeze in July of 2022, during a stretch of warm Chicago days when the light felt soft and the air moved through the studio with an easy rhythm. I wasn’t trying to capture a scene so much as a feeling—the looseness of summer, the warmth in the air, and that drifting, musical quality that always reminds me of the old Seals & Crofts song. Working in oils let me build the atmosphere slowly, letting the whites and grays open up like…
light passing through warm air, while the subtle reds and violets slipped in like flashes of heat or memory. The diagonal strokes came naturally, almost like the breeze itself was shaping the canvas. I didn’t fully understand the painting until I saw it hanging in my son’s home, lit by real daylight. The whole piece brightened and came alive, revealing the breezy, summer feeling I had been chasing from the start.

Gery Kempczynski is a Chicago-based contemporary artist known for atmospheric abstract landscapes and expressive abstract works. His textured oil and acrylic paintings explore the emotional terrain between stillness and movement, blending minimalist restraint with layered depth. Through impasto knife work and gestural brush techniques, he builds surfaces that capture subtle shifts in light, color, and motion.
In his short time on Singulart, Gery has already placed four works with collectors — including the recent sale of Desert Sunrise to a private collector in Yvelines, France. Whether landscape-inspired or fully abstract, his paintings resonate with those seeking art that speaks softly but leaves a lasting impression.
