About this artwork
For me Paris is a powerful confluence of history, memory, and art that resonates deeply with my own creative themes. My paintings of the city capture the sensation of time being layered and fluid—a space where past and present coexist.
Paris holds a significant place in my personal history. It was one of the first European cities I visited as a child after my father returned from the Vietnam War. This early experience, combined with my frequent return… journeys, has infused my work with a sense of nostalgia, discovery, and the romance of the "flâneur"—the observant wanderer strolling through the city's streets and covered passages.
In my oil on linen painting “Printemps dans Place Colette (Paris Spring)”, the vantage point is from an outdoor table at Café Le Nemours looking out on the bustling square. We sit on a magical terrace beneath the columns of Place Colette and the Comédie Française.
