About this artwork
In this drawing from my series on broken faces, I wanted to represent the deep pain that lies behind the apparent silence. The face in profile, sketched with delicate and interrupted lines, seems frozen in a moment of contemplation or resignation, while a black glow bursts from the mouth. This contrast between restraint and explosion evokes the constant inner struggle of these wounded men, forever marked by war.
The black that escapes from the… mouth embodies a repressed emotion, a word stifled by circumstances. Through this work, I seek to capture the psychological impact of visible and invisible wounds. Each burst of charcoal and each sketched line symbolizes the fragility and strength of these men, torn between their old identity and the new reality imposed by war.
