About this artwork
In this drawing, titled Gas Masks - Composition, I explore a collective vision of anonymity and dehumanization. The figures blend into each other, creating a composition where the gas masks dominate the scene. These masks, symbols of protection against a dangerous outside world, erase the identity of the individuals who wear them.
Through this accumulation, I wanted to express a form of loss of humanity. The charcoal gives the masks a brutal and… imperfect texture, reinforcing the idea of a struggle for survival, but also of an erasure of emotions.
This drawing questions our need for protection and the impact it can have on our individuality. It invites us to reflect on how we manage to preserve our identity and our humanity, even in the most extreme situations.
