About this artwork
What kind of creature is that, trudging into the forest clearing through the evening mist? A cross between an old man and a bear. The woman doesn't seem frightened, even though it looks rather grim. She sits relaxed on the bench, watching the creature with curiosity and a smile, letting her red scarf flutter in the breeze. What could it possibly mean? The owl seems to know.

Hans Batschauer is a German painter who exhibits nationally and internationally in both group and solo exhibitions.
Originally painting with oil and acrylic, since 2021 he has focused entirely on digital painting in the style of New Surrealism.
He creates “transformative and mysterious paintings,” as he himself writes, which convey a unique visual language of suggestive power in luminous colors.
In doing so, he does not imitate classical painting techniques, but creates complex hybrid compositions using a whole range of digital tools.
At the heart of his often symbolically and religiously charged picture stories is man with his feelings, dreams and longings.
