About this artwork
The idea for the painting "Landscape with Two Kinds of Shadows" originated during a stay on the Andalusian coast. It had rained, causing the pine trees to sprout fresh, bright green shoots at their tips. This vibrant color, combined with the intense light and the shadows cast by the trees, inspired and captivated me so much that it led to the development of the "Shadows" series. This painting is the third in the series.
Quote from Prof. Wulf Schomer,… 2024: “… her painterly style is expressive, dynamic, even gestural in some parts, thus characterized by a vigorous use of form and color. She captures the contrasting colors of a landscape … in light, color and form, simplifying and abstracting, without, however, losing contact with the visible and perceptible landscape space.”
Hedwig Oeldig, a trained painter specializing in landscape painting, uses acrylics, experiments with oils, pastels, and mixed media, and draws on her many years of teaching experience. Her dynamic painting style, oscillating between representational and abstract art, combines expressive, gestural brushstrokes, visible traces, and translucent layers of paint into atmospherically rich works. With her powerful, vibrant paintings, she invites viewers to experience nature in a multifaceted and emotional way, making warmth, cold, light, and shadow intensely palpable.
