Homage in bronze to new life and a tribute to a majestic creature that represents the soul and future of Africa.
A collaboration with Painteddog TV in support of World Elephant Day, this exclusive limited edition celebrates the re-introduction of a small elephant herd to the Rietspruit Game Reserve in Limpopo. To everyone’s great surprise just days after the herd’s release there was an unexpected little arrival – a baby elephant was born.
My bronze… art and furniture are inspired by Africa’s wonderful wildlife and people. Taking inspiration from the bush and my previous experience as a safari guide, my creations strive to capture the essence and beauty of the animals and people I sculpt.
Each piece is exclusively sculpted, cast, finished and patinated by myself. Using the lost wax method of bronzing each sculpture is cast by me in my Black Dog Foundry.
Heinrich Filter is a self-taught sculptor whose deep connection to the African wilderness—shaped by over a decade as a professional safari guide—lies at the heart of his work. Specialising in bronze, he creates powerful, handcrafted pieces that fuse lifelike realism with expressive abstraction and refined, timeless form. Inspired by Africa’s wildlife, people, and tribal heritage, Filter’s sculptures convey presence, dignity, and emotional depth. Every piece is personally crafted by the artist—from mould-making and wax work to casting, chasing, and patination—ensuring a singular vision from start to finish. His work balances classical technique with a contemporary sensibility, creating enduring pieces that celebrate the raw beauty and spirit of Africa.
