About this artwork
Het werk heeft het formaat van een klassieke SX70 Polaroid, een drager die traditioneel verbonden is met directe registratie en onmiddellijke aanwezigheid. Hier verschijnt echter niets op het eerste zicht. Pas bij het naderen verschijnt in reliëf een minimale configuratie: een cirkel met een rechthoekige uitsparing en een rechthoek met een cirkelvormig tekort.
De vormen suggereren complementariteit. Ze lijken gemaakt om in elkaar te passen, om een… eenheid te vormen. Maar dat gebeurt niet. Ze blijven naast elkaar bestaan, elk gedefinieerd door wat ontbreekt. Wat de ene bezit, ontbreekt de andere — en precies dat verhindert hun vereniging.
Het beeld bestaat niet uit aanwezigheid, maar uit tekort. Niet uit lijn of kleur, maar uit verschuiving en uitsparing. Inaptitude maakt zo zichtbaar hoe vorm en betekenis kunnen ontstaan uit wat ontbreekt — en hoe zelfs perfecte complementariteit geen garantie is voor samenvallen.
