About this artwork
A woman lies in the grass, her eyes closed, her face touched by the summer light. The warmth of an afternoon shimmers between the broad, swift brushstrokes. Hjalmar Thelen depicts her not as a model, but as a person in a moment of complete relaxation—a picture of peace, almost casual yet full of tenderness.
The bright green of the surroundings seems to breathe, covering her skin and fabric with soft reflections. A strip of skin between her top… and waistband emphasizes her vulnerability—not erotic, but human, real. The tranquility of this moment, the light filtering through the leaves, the profound serenity of the pose: all this condenses into a silent ode to trust in life.
A work that fills rooms with summery lightness, but also with quiet intimacy—the gaze of a painter who celebrates existence in its vulnerable beauty. With Hahnemühle certificate of authenticity.

Credentials

Hjalmar Thelen (1962–2017) was a Berlin painter and draftsman who made the unspectacular visible: faces, places, and everyday scenes. His works—on paper, cardboard, or canvas—are direct, concentrated, and characterized by quiet precision. Without academic training, but with a clear eye and a delicate touch, he created over 2,000 works. His art is quiet, figurative, narrative—and characterized by respect for what is depicted. His studio was his apartment, but he most enjoyed traveling by bicycle, armed with a field easel and paints, along Berlin's canals, rivers, and lakes.
