About this artwork
I have been working on an abstract acrylic painting inspired by rust and patina effects. Using a squeegee, I apply several layers of paint, each carefully chosen to achieve the right balance of depth and texture. As I work, I drag different tools across my artwork, leaving scratches that give the painting a weathered and abstract touch. These scratches are not random, but deliberately placed to enhance the feeling of age and decay. The goal is to… create a surface reminiscent of metal that tells a story through time. I am fascinated by how the patina effects highlight the depth of the layers of paint and breathe life into the painting. Unlike my other squeegee paintings, here the colors have been chosen from a specific color palette, such as various warm browns, the metallic colors "silver" and "copper", cold blues and "gold ochre".
Inga Knaak, a German artist, prefers to paint with acrylic paints and loves the abstract squeegee technique. She creates abstract representations with occasional geometric or playful influences, sometimes inspired by Gerhard Richter's abstract works. Her artworks are an allegorical reflection of life, unpredictable and sometimes with hidden, deeper layers of meaning.
Creativity, imagination, sensitivity and determination allow them to paint pictures that would never have existed otherwise.
