This piece is about a mandatory statistics class, required when the artist (Isabelle) was earning h PHD. When the 82 year-old professor walked into class, he asked, “How many of you are afraid to be here?” Every person with their hand raised was female, including Isabelle. He said he'd made it his purpose throughout his entire career to undo that common response. The professor, a masterful teacher, learned of Isabelle's attraction to patterns and… to systems in nature. He introduced each concept to her in a different color, and asked her to study and work on solving the equations using erasable pens in the corresponding colors. That's when it all made sense, when Isabelle saw the beauty of algebra. This is a tribute to that professor. "Beautiful Algebra" is acrylic and ink on a wood panel, finished with a thin layer of polished cold wax and framed in a maple frame. See photo details.
« Beautiful art comes from inspiration. Inspiration comes from being present, from feeling alive. That's what art is for. »
