This work, Counting Stars, (the sister of "Ride 'Em") is about simplicity. Skilled abstract artists achieve this when they manage to show beautiful and elegant shapes and marks without crowding or losing them in other details. This piece is clear about what the artist wants you to notice. It leads your eye through the image with a separation of shapes, and with a contrast in colors and their values. The pursuit of simplicity isn’t only valued by… this abstract artist, Leonardo da Vinci wrote : “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. Counting Stars is 12" x 12" (30cm x 30cm) acrylic on birch wood panel. The artist exclusively paints on birch wood because it allows her to scratch and sand back into the surface (as you'll see in the detail shots) to expose what she calls the history of each painting. This piece is framed in a natural maple wood floating frame that is 1.5 " deep - the detail photos show close ups of the frame.
« Beautiful art comes from inspiration. Inspiration comes from being present, from feeling alive. That's what art is for. »
