About this artwork
The idea arose from a desire to use the collage technique, but without using materials (photos, paints, etc.) external to my work: I used black and white prints of some of my old figurative oil paintings on paper. I then divided them into small to medium-sized pieces and reassembled them imaginatively, ignoring the figurative nature for which they were created, but viewing and evaluating them solely as stains, my own pictorial imprints, created previously… with a specific intent and repurposed in a new way, far removed from their original visual meaning.
It is a process that speaks of recycling, therefore symbolically of ecology.
This is why a forest was born: trunks and branches, if you look carefully, have noses, mouths, eyes... they are there to remind us that they are living beings, worthy of respect... In this sense the forest, nature, has its own "soul" that we can no longer ignore.
Iva Recchia uses oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas, canvas panels, and paper, drawing on a solid academic background in Verona and Venice and international experience. Her technique explores a dynamic figurative style, in which reality and abstraction intermingle through frayed forms and bold colors; subject and background blur, evoking the elusiveness of existence. Her works convey a profound poetic tension between beauty and disintegration, inviting the viewer to reflect on the harmony and contradictions of human nature.
