About this artwork
Abstracted Memory III is about the feeling that time, space, and memory have collapsed. They are replaced by lines, shapes, color and form to represent the emotional stream that occurs during this collapse. The series began as a way of expressing the multitude or tide of emotions that poured forth following the reunion of objects, and photographs, from decades ago. My reunion with my own possessions that had been stored for years at a friend's attic.… He had died, leaving behind a grieving widow who in her grief was unable to communicate with me when I was living across the country. I was able to retrieve them after I moved back to the east coast.
I had an unusual relationship with my grandmother, the actual title is Abstracted Memories III with Mamie. A flood of memories, coupled with joy of being reunited with possessions brought me to a place that words could not express, and this is how my series was born.
