About this artwork
In this photo series I explore the raw but artistic textures of nature. The rugged beauty of rock formations opposed to moss and grass grows in rough terrain. This one was captured on Reynisfjara, famous black sand beach in Iceland. These hexagonal formations are made in process of fast cooling of lava that erupted from nearby volcano and reached the cold sea. Icelandic painter Jelena Antic's work has been exhibited throughout Serbia, Iceland, and the United States. Antic works in acrylic and sometimes spray paint to create series inspired by subjects ranging from the Icelandic glacial rivers to metaphysics. Antic paints very quickly, so she often works in diptychs so she can continue working on the same idea while the paint of the first work dries. Antic's works are bright, conceptual, and often involve abstract patterns.
