About this artwork
This work is an aquatint etching. It is made on a 50/33 cm zinc plate. For those who are not familiar with the etching process, first clean and prepare the plate with water-based sandpaper. Then that plate is varnished. Once varnished, the drawing is made by removing the varnish with a gouge. When it's ready, it goes into an acid bath. After that, the remains of the varnish must be cleaned. Then you apply a layer of resin to the iron and heat it.…
Finally Inked and stamp! Instead of resin the artist has used graffiti spray paint to achieve the aquatint. For the most delicate areas, the plate was submerged for only 2 seconds in the acid. This work is a portrait from a photograph of a niece of the artist.

Jenifer Carey is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Italy and the United Kingdom. Music, especially jazz, is one of the main recurring themes in her art. Carey employs engraving and sculptural techniques for the faces of her subjects, whose hands and movements are always expressive. In addition, she portrays her observations and life experiences in order to "capture a moment". She creates using oils on canvas.
