About this artwork
Rothko fascinates me. I saw an exhibition of his work at the Guggenheim in New York that impressed me and inspired this piece. In this work, I capture the tension and contained energy of a social encounter charged with glances, secrets, and crossed thoughts. I used oil paint to bring each character to life with realism and expressionistic nuances, while the influence of pop art adds freshness and color. I wanted to reflect how, amidst the apparent…

Jenifer Carey is a painter, printmaker, and sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Italy and the United Kingdom. Music, especially jazz, is one of the main recurring themes in her art. Carey employs engraving and sculptural techniques for the faces of her subjects, whose hands and movements are always expressive. In addition, she portrays her observations and life experiences in order to "capture a moment". She creates using oils on canvas.
