About this artwork
For my series of livestock and market scenes I work from old black and white photographs. I use a limited colour palette to retain the feeling of nostalgia but add a flash of colour somewhere to make it contemporary. I am drawn to the composition of the photograph - groups of people standing around discussing the animals or buying vegetables. My work can be described as 'modern nostalgia' - a familiar subject painted with a contemporary, expressive…
