About this artwork
In Between Us, Joanna Pilarczyk presents an intimate portrait of a friend that centres on quiet presence and human connection. Resting on a vibrant blanket, the young man meets the viewer’s gaze with a balance of gentleness and quiet confidence. His outstretched hand, offering a small bouquet, becomes a subtle gesture of openness that bridges the space between subject and observer.
Painted in a close-up, the figure anchors the composition, allowing… the gaze and gesture to guide the work's emotional tone. The background remains intentionally restrained, punctuated by vivid geometric stripes that suggest the surface beneath the model while keeping focus firmly on the human presence at the centre of the painting.
