Captivated by the vibrancy of paint, Pilarczyk uses a bold mixture of clashing colours, blending neon acrylics and oils to create sensual and striking portraits of acquaintances and friends within the community of North London. Her romantic compositions explore themes of relationships, self-awareness and acceptance. Joanna Pilarczyk is a London-based contemporary figurative painter originally from Poland. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Art University in Zielona Gora. Joanna was recently shortlisted for the Herbert Smith Freehills Portrait Award 2025 at the National Portrait Gallery and won the Boynes Artist Award in 2024. Her work has been shown at the Saatchi Gallery's Start Art Fair, the Royal Society of Arts, the Women in Art Fair at Mall Galleries, and in solo shows with Oink Gallery and Artsy (curated by Untitled Space, NYC). Her paintings have also been exhibited at Superfine Art Fair, Times Square, 33 Contemporary Gallery (Chicago & Palm Beach), Mash Gallery (Los Angeles), and internationally in Germany and Telluride, USA. Joanna was a finalist for the Fikva Award 2023 and the Women United Art Prize in both 2021 and 2022.
