About this artwork
Trinidad Girls is a heartfelt double portrait capturing the deep bond of sisterhood, trust, and love between two sisters, Sophia and Gabby, who grew up in North London. The artist captures them resting together on vibrant blankets in a local park. Their intertwined pose speaks of shared dreams and unwavering support as they navigate life in the competitive environment of a big city.
This painting celebrates the sisters' connection to their Trinidadian… heritage and their mother's inspiring journey to build a better life in England. Following their mother's footsteps, they passionately design Carnival costumes, blending tradition and creativity to honour their roots while carving out their identities.
Polish artist Joanna Pilarczyk highlights the beauty of human connection and cultural diversity through her vibrant portraits. As an artist deeply fascinated by the stories of people from different backgrounds, she invites viewers to appreciate the rich tapestry of multicultural London.
