Communication Protocol is part of Joanna Szumska’s Avatary series, which explores identity in the context of contemporary technological systems.
The painting presents two female profiles positioned back to back: one organic, rooted in nature, and the other transformed into a technological avatar. Their coexistence reflects the dual structure of modern identity — shaped by both emotional experience and digital processes.
The central vertical structure… suggests a channel of exchange, a symbolic interface through which these two modes of being communicate. Floral motifs contrast with mechanical precision, emphasizing the tension between intuition and system-based logic.
Rather than depicting conflict, the work reflects on connection — on how communication evolves when human consciousness operates simultaneously within biological and technological frameworks.
