Updating Feelings is part of Joanna Szumska’s Avatary series, exploring the evolving relationship between human emotions and digital technology.
The painting portrays a young woman whose delicate features merge with subtle cybernetic elements. Surrounded by flowing blue forms, autumn leaves and a butterfly, she inhabits a space between organic experience and technological mediation.
Rather than depicting conflict, the work reflects a process of… transformation. The title suggests a contemporary condition in which emotions, memories and relationships increasingly pass through digital systems. The butterfly symbolizes change, while the falling leaves evoke the natural cycles that continue beneath layers of technological progress.
Updating Feelings invites viewers to reflect on what remains uniquely human in an age of constant upgrades and virtual interactions.
