About this artwork
Access Code III is part of Joanna Szumska’s Avatary series, examining the evolving relationship between human identity and technology.
The painting presents two mirrored profiles: a woman rooted in nature, adorned with magnolia flowers, and her technological counterpart constructed from mechanical structures. Positioned back-to-back, they evoke a state of separation as well as silent interdependence.
Set against a luminous gold background reminiscent… of sacred iconography, the work elevates the theme of identity into a timeless, almost ritual dimension. Here, the “access code” becomes more than a digital reference—it transforms into a metaphorical question: where does true identity reside? In the systems we create, or within the organic intelligence of the human body?
