About this artwork
This scene although completely imagined and created by the artist, could as likely be seen in New York which is a city of many unusual happenings. However, he was going going through his archive of images and came across the New York negative from a visit many years ago. The "retro" feel of that image made him long for a use to take the image beyond the "ordinary". Sudden inspiration came to him by recalling the camel image from a more recent trip…
to Sri Lanka.
The result is this surreal concept of two tamil boys leading their camel through Manhattan.

John Brooks is a British visual artist who is currently living and working in Bristol, UK. Through his photography, Brooks wishes to project a visual and emotional response that extends far beyond the pictorial. His photographs, both analogue and digital, often employ a layering affect where a subject becomes doubled or tripled, thereby creating an illusion of volume, depth and spatiality. His photographs can reflect the imposing nature of urbanism and play with perspective to create an illusory world.
His other works include well though through abstract studies and minimalist works, some architectural and some topographical.
