About this artwork
This image is part of a series he created as a study of concrete water towers in southern India which were designed by British engineers in the 19th century and built by local labour. The fascinating complex shape of the structures caused him to seek out and document a number of these structures and then to create images that portray their multi-dimensioned component parts joined together to form the end product. been encroached upon by trees and other vegetation which in some entangles the concrete beams.
This series has featured in a number of international exhibtions and won the Grand Prize at the New York Center for Photographic Art in 2016.

John Brooks is a British visual artist who is currently living and working in Bristol, UK. Through his photography, Brooks wishes to project a visual and emotional response that extends far beyond the pictorial. His photographs, both analogue and digital, often employ a layering affect where a subject becomes doubled or tripled, thereby creating an illusion of volume, depth and spatiality. His photographs can reflect the imposing nature of urbanism and play with perspective to create an illusory world.
His other works include well though through abstract studies and minimalist works, some architectural and some topographical.
