A portrait, of sorts, a reflection of the past and a testament to life as a middle aged artist...this painting and the others like it in this numerically title series are basically reflective of life past 50. They act as emotional sentinels of memories past. This particular painting hearkens multiple personal timelines from age of consent to age of reason and infers stylistic similarities… of time and place over generations. The imagery records a visual transference as my memories wonder through this work to others I have encountered over the years melding a figure in memory of me yet not necessarily completely me. I suppose this is how memory works with all of us as some memories are often only a self-guided perception of an event as opposed to historically detailed accuracy of an event.
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
