DRYING-SHIPS-December 2024
Soon the beautiful summer blooms will be replaced by falling leaves and then snow, so I wanted to take on some figurative works to get me into that fall/winter mindset. I thought I would start this mental reorientation by reflecting on the latest fad in America, Barbie. Its not so much for the brand's cultural significance, but more about the color pink that the brand resonates. Its a fantastic color to paint with because… of it's soothing warmth and ability to literally leap off the canvas. Pink also compliments the cooler greens and deep reds of the this work, and despite it's dominance it somehow avoids tension between the warms and cools. It actually anchors the painting while the reds and greens do their work. I'm also a huge fan of yellows, again a brand favorite, and really enjoy the brilliant, super hot lemon yellow of the tie which acts as a visual highway between the pinks and greens. I truly love color.
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
