About this artwork
Forget about the portrait and just fall into this one…Some works are easy and just flow while others require more time, more energy and much more product to achieve a desired result. This one is the latter, and the end result of so many studio sessions is a purposefully busy composition that forces itself against a black as night background. It’s a byproduct of this pestering internal conundrum I needed to resolve regarding color both as a motivator…
and as an anchor. Does pattern help or hurt in this? Do flowing layers of sensual, dripping paint help or hurt in the context of texturizing that color? The whole process was further complicated because of my red/green color blindness! Or was that an asset?
