About this artwork
This is another painting I have held onto for a few years because of it's importance to my artistic growth. It is mixed media on wood panel and is THE gateway painting between my older work and my new Reconstructed Expressionism. This work, an abstracted portrait of two Arab women in Hijabs posing for a selfie, struck me because of the the textural elements that developed through prolonged experimentation. The visual language danced between movement…
and texture as I reduced the image to it's baser elements and by the end of my creative process I knew I had to move forward into my new style.

Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint.
