About this artwork
Completed 07/14 and drying. SHIPS LATE AUGUST 2023
This super impasto work became a literal battle of will to complete as I struggled for control of the work layer after layer. The composition was set early on, however my troubles started after a deer family came and partially decimated my spot. I had to rethink and retool the composition as well as subject detail to resemble the random, yet somewhat elegant, mess they left behind. Funny enough,… it was actually a bit more interesting after they partially munched the spot, but some of the completed areas now in need of a repaint proved seriously challenging due to the impasto nature of the work.
Nevertheless I persisted, and the end result is an extremely pleasing, texturized visual statement...its bold, but not loud, impactful, but not distracting and offers a palette that invigorates the senses. It is a celebration of nature and of summer...that and you can't tell from the work how much weeding needs to be done in this garden!
« Either way, my message for the viewer is simple. Enjoy my work for its visual elements. Experience the excitement of the micro, macro, and then the subliminal. Rinse and repeat. »
Jon Parlangeli is a passionate American painter and sculptor who has widely exhibited his work throughout the U.S. Fascinated by the process of creation, he composes works that experiment with color and the physicality of paint. Parlangeli's creations stand out for their depth and tactility, appearing as explosions of bright color and unexpected shapes. Parlangeli additionally includes a representational balance of nature and humanity in his work, that merges with abstract elements to create a kind of historic bibliophile hidden in the paint.
