About this artwork
Abatimiento explores a state of profound exhaustion—a moment when sustained effort undermines the structures that previously provided support and meaning. The character embodies an inner emptiness between resistance and surrender. Certainties and inner anchors crumble, exposing the vulnerability beneath the endurance.
The bronze powder creates a subdued, heavy luminosity that simultaneously suggests permanence and erosion. What once shimmered now… weighs on the surface, reflecting the weight of accumulated experience. Despair appears not as a rupture, but as a quiet veil that clouds perception and drains energy.
The work lingers in this state of suspension—a moment where orientation is lacking and the next step is not visible. It becomes a reflection on human fragility: on phases in which even moving forward seems uncertain.
Jorge Humberto Tapia Perez, a Mexican-German artist with a medical background, works primarily with oil on canvas and incorporates materials such as chalk, sand, metal, and textiles. His style interweaves contemporary figuration, anatomical precision, and baroque intensity, uniting controlled fragmentation, symbolic imagery, and Mesoamerican and European mythologies. His works open a space for emotional confrontation—reflecting vulnerability, transformation, and existential fragility, and inviting the viewer to engage with the full complexity of being human.
