About this artwork
§Experiencia" unfolds language as a visual field. Words in German, Spanish, and Nahuatl detach from linear readability and become movement, trace, and density. Writing no longer serves as a carrier of fixed meaning, but as a bodily gesture—circling, layering, and resisting capture.
Fragments drawn from philosophy and poetry across several centuries converge on the handmade paper. Embedded flower fragments evoke temporality and transience: traces… of something once alive that continue to resonate beyond their presence.
Part of an ongoing series reflecting on what it means to be human, "Experiencia" suggests that identity itself is shaped by memory, language, and the enduring dialogue between cultures, voices, and time.
Jorge Humberto Tapia Perez, a Mexican-German artist with a medical background, works primarily with oil on canvas and incorporates materials such as chalk, sand, metal, and textiles. His style interweaves contemporary figuration, anatomical precision, and baroque intensity, uniting controlled fragmentation, symbolic imagery, and Mesoamerican and European mythologies. His works open a space for emotional confrontation—reflecting vulnerability, transformation, and existential fragility, and inviting the viewer to engage with the full complexity of being human.
