About this artwork
For me, sommerKinder is closely linked to childhood and freedom; to the feeling of being outdoors, without a destination, surrounded by nature, light and wind.
When painting, I was less concerned with a specific subject than with making the inner rhythm of this time palpable: that quiet pulse between movement and stillness that repeatedly shapes my work. In this painting, I capture the moment when lightness becomes perceptible… like on a warm summer… day when everything is in motion and yet appears still.
Lines and shapes appear and disappear again, visible on the surface and at the same time as a fine structure underneath, almost like memories.
The artwork is protected with a satin-gloss synthetic resin varnish.
« I paint the moment where movement and stillness touch – rooted in an inner rhythm, grown from the nature-bound vastness of my childhood. »
Judith Riemer is a German abstract artist whose atmospheric works emerge from the interplay of movement and stillness. Influenced by her previous work as an interior designer, she explores the effects of atmosphere, light, and visual tranquility within a space.
After studying interior design, she continuously developed her artistic practice as a freelance painter. Her works are predominantly oil on canvas. Gestures, traces, layering, and deliberate reduction characterize her working process and create pictorial spaces of quiet tension and atmospheric depth.
Transitions are central to her work – moments of change, of pausing, and of becoming open. Light, rhythm, and reduced color palettes create works that do not seek to explain or capture, but rather to open space for individual perception.
Judith Riemer lives and works in Lower Saxony, Germany.
