About this artwork
Canopy is part of my OVERGROWTH series, where I explore the moment when growth becomes movement, trace, and emotional imprint.
I painted this work outdoors, beneath the trees, allowing the environment itself to influence the composition. The large vertical marks come directly from the shadows of branches projected onto the canvas throughout the day. Rather than inventing a landscape, I wanted to capture the presence of a living moment as it unfolded… around me.
Across this shifting surface, hearts emerge like pulses or instinctive impulses. Some seem to rise, others cling, overlap, or resist disappearing entirely. They became a way for me to speak about attachment, memory, and the traces we leave behind as we move through places, emotions, and relationships.
With Canopy, I wasn’t searching for control or fixed composition. I wanted the painting to remain porous to light, time, and sensation — like something alive still in the process of becomin
