About this artwork
“Atlas is a loss of bearings.”
I wanted to depict a scarab beetle,
but without ever fully revealing it.
The image becomes a motif.
The pattern becomes a disturbance.
The gaze searches for a form.
but runs up against repetition,
to deformation,
to the flow.
We think we see…
Then we doubt.
With this work, I explore a simple idea:
and if the detail, once enlarged,
was becoming a mental landscape?
With Atlas, I transform a scarab into… a perceptual motif.
Between figuration and abstraction, the image disturbs the gaze that seeks to
identifying the form without ever fully grasping it.
