About this artwork
This 2023 work depicts a hare's profile constructed with gestural strokes and an earthy palette. The composition creates a visual correspondence between the animal's eye and the suggested eye in the human face emerging in the background, resulting in a superimposition of gazes that connects both presences within a single visual consciousness.
The suggested face, formed by patches of color and volume, evokes the serenity and structure of iconic images… of Buddhas in Eastern culture. This relationship between animal and spiritual figure proposes a dialogue between instinct and contemplation, where the gaze becomes the meeting point between the natural and the symbolic. 🎨
Julio Cesar Cepeda Duque is a painter, draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor, trained at the Samuel Feijóo Professional Art School in Cuba, with extensive experience in the art community. His work is distinguished by techniques such as monochrome and rough-textured drawing and printmaking, evoking the erosion of time, while exploring multiple materials and disciplines as each concept requires. He addresses themes such as human relationships, recycling, and the link between science and nature. He seeks to move the viewer, inviting them to reflect deeply, beyond the visual impact, on the richness and silent resilience of time.
