A frontal mask of totemic and primitive character, constructed with an expressionistic and gestural pictorial language. The figure, a ritual mask, occupies almost the entire surface of the canvas. The elongated, deep-set eyes generate an introspective gaze, while the open mouth with prominent teeth introduces a tension between the human and the animal.
In this work, I employed thick, impasto brushstrokes,… where layers of paint, drips, and splashes are visible, lending dynamism and spontaneity. The palette combines earthy tones, reds, and ochres in the face with contrasting greens, blues, and whites in the background, creating a vibrant and almost ritualistic atmosphere.
The black lines that cross the face suggest scars, tribal markings, or identity symbols, reinforcing the idea of an ancestral or archetypal figure. The background is treated with stains.

Julio Cesar Cepeda Duque is a painter, draftsman, printmaker, and sculptor, trained at the Samuel Feijóo Professional Art School in Cuba, with extensive experience in the art community.
